Question about ants?

this is kinda gross but there was a black carpenter ant crawling on my floor and i squished it with paper towel and i heard a pop and looked. The bottom part of the ant (i think its called the abdomen) popped and was flattened and there was little stains on the paper towel, but the ant was still crawling and fidgeting around..... Shouldnt the ant have died because arent all of theyre important parts in the abdomen?

  1. The parts in the abdomen are important, but not absolutely crucial to immediate survival in the very short term.

In other words, that's a good way to kill an ant, slooooow.  If you're into that kind of thing.

This goes for people too, by the way, and was the basis for many fascinating methods of torture and execution, in the middle ages, and earlier.  And later.
