Question about army bases

okay i live on an army base and i've noticed they don't play the national anthem at 5 pm like air force bases do.

why is this so?

  1. It is traditional in the Army to play 'Retreat' and 'To the Colors' at the end of the normal duty day which for Army purposes is 1700 hundred hours.  The National Anthem is however played at the start of most if not all official ceremonies in the Army.  Soldiers really have no reason to play the music that represents the country they support and defend every day, they know why they are there.  Good luck to you.


  2. The Army doesn't play the national anthem on their bases. They play "Retreat".  

  3. Army is Army, and Air Force is Air Force.  They each have their own way of doing things.  Army bases play Retreat anywhere from 1700-1800 to signify the end of the official day.
