Question about atheism ?

i don't understand how its a religion if it doesn't believe in god because most people say you have to believe in good for it to be a religion? is this true? atheists, what do you think?

Atheists simply do not believe in any gods. That's all it means. Each atheist is individual and unique in other beliefs. The only belief that they all share is that there are no gods. It is not a religion. There are no religious books for atheists, there are no church services for them... it is simply the conclusion they have come to.

Anything that addresses the issue of gods, goddesses or God, or lack thereof, is considered a religion.

But, basically, atheists don't see themselves as "religious" even though they don't realize they DO have some kinds of gods.

By definition, a god is anything that you devote yourself to, either mentally or emotionally.  It's what you like to talk about, when there's nothing else to talk about; or what you like to do when there's nothing else to do; or what you like to think about when there's nothing else pressing requiring your mental attention.

It could be your brand new SUV, or your new 53" plasma TV, or your vacation time, or even a loved one.

We ALL have SOME kind of god, goddess or God in our lives that we focus our energies on when not required elsewhere.  You see, we're just wired that way.  That's the way we're designed, and we just can't get away from our designer specs no matter HOW hard we try.  (It's all in the definition.  You may disagree with the definition, but you can't disagree with the facts I presented.)

Atheism is not a religion, just like theism is not a religion.

HOWEVER, there are atheistic religions- religions that don't believe in a god. A few examples would be Buddhism, Taoism, and Satanism.
