If i clap my hands what happens to the atoms in the air in between my hands do they just go into my hand or where do they go?

  1. First two responses are correct.  The air is forced away from your hands as the distance between them increases.


  2. As you push your hands together you will momentarily increase the pressure in the air forcing it away. However molecules in the air are so small that inevitably many will remain in the small crevasses in your hands.

  3. Try clapping your hands next to a feather.

    When you clap your hands, you cause air to be displaced from between your hands into the surrounding area.
