Ok, so I just bought an PureAV Mini-Stereo Audio Cable to connect my Macbook to my iPod speakers. The cable was $20, however I have seen audio cables for much cheaper than this (even at the dollar store). Is it worth it to get an better quality cable, or are all of them basically the same?

  1. The only difference is how well they're built.  They'll work the same but a more expensive cable may be more rugged and last longer.

  2. There's an expression that You Get What You Pay For.  Often that's true.  But when it comes to cables at consumer electronics stores, it's almost guaranteed that you're paying to line someone's pocket, not get better quality.

Dollar stores, on the other hand, are clearance houses for cheap c**p that couldn't sell anywhere else.  I'm all in favor of buying cheaper, as the hype about 'quality' is mostly phony, but dollar store cables really are junk.
