Question:

Question about auto flywheel?

I heard once that when a motor shut down, the flywheel stop at the same spot everytime. Therefore if a starter broke off a flywheel tooth, the missing tooth would be at the starter everytime you start the car. My question is...IS THIS TRUE?????? I am guessing not.

  1. The weakest or  stressed link will go first.. naturally.

as for fly wheels e.g.  if  the starter motor  is  not synchronised [meshing /dovetailing] that will tend to wear and "knock" , breaking eventually.

  2. Good guess, it ain't true.

  3. no its not true ,no engine stops at the same spot all the time, there's no truth to that at all,no engine stops in the same position all the time, good luck.

  4. Nope.....the motor will tend to stop in almost the same SPOTS, but not the same spot.

If you have a broken tooth on the flywheel, it is likely that it was caused by a faulty starter and not wear.

It takes alot of effort to break a hardened steel flywheel tooth.

    No true

  5. that is an old mechanics theory, with no truth to it. you guessed correctly. but the ring gear can develop a low spot in the teeth.
