My sisters baby pushes herself up with her arms. She thinks she'll be crawling soon (5 months old) But she doesn't even get her tummy off the floor yet. When do babies do this (approx) and how long after that do they crawl?

  1. My youngest is 6 months old tomorrow. He started pushing himself up on his arms at around 4 1/2 months.  About 2 weeks later he starting pulling his knees up to get his belly off the floor and he would rock back and forth.  A week after he turned 5 months old he was def. mobile.  He crawls all over the place now. So I would say another 4-6 weeks and she will be crawling.

In the case of my daughter. She started pushing herself up on her arms at 6 months old but she nevered crawled with her tummy off the floor...she scooted around on her belly for awhile and was walking at 10 months. Some babies actually walk before they crawl.

  2. Depends on the baby.  My daughter started to army crawl before her 6 month check up, but she still hasn't learned to crawl with just her hands and knees (and she's 7 months now).  I wouldn't be surprised if she skipped that form of crawling and just learned to walk.  They do whatever gets them around.  :)  For my daughter, one day she just started to crawl.  Like magic almost.

  3. Depends on the baby.  She just might not feel like putting her legs into it, but I would say that she will be crawling in the next 6 weeks or so.

  4. it depends my son started cruising then he went back to crawling .. but let's say babies usally tend to move aroung when they are 5-6 months old

  5. "By 4 months, most babies should be able to do a mini-pushup — holding up their heads and chests by supporting themselves on their elbows — but some pediatricians believe that more and more babies aren't reaching this milestone until 6 months of age."

"Most babies learn to crawl between the ages of 6 and 10 months."

You or your sister may want to take a look at babycenter.com and get on their mailing list, which is free.  They will send you an e-mail each week stating where most kids are around that age (milestones like crawling) along with some other interesting reads.

  6. My son was 6 months when he stared crawling and had been lifting his tummy up for about 6 weeks. He just kept rocking back and forwards and then all of a sudden - he was off and there was no stopping him.
