Is it true they eat 30-40 crickets a day? Mine barely eats over 6 if that. Is this eating behavior normal. I have had him for 4 days now so he just might need to settle in more. Anything to help would be apprieciated. Thank you.

  1. It depends on the size of the crickets. If they are the right size he should be eating 12+ a day Give him a pinkey mouse also as he will enjoy it and its better for him. Also try mealworms and roaches. He will like a variety. Dont pick him up for at least 2 weeks and use a dirt and sand mixture. Try this site it will help you alot with all your monitor questions. www.repticzone.com   go to the monitor forums and all your questions will be answered. Also buy a temp gun if you dont already have one. You need about a 130 deg F basking temp for a healthy monitor

  2. 6 sounds normal to me. Mine was around 5inches when I purchased the guy and he wasn't in the best condition. Around that size he was eating 6 medium crickets a day. Once he got around 12 inches or more he was eating 30 to 50 large crickets. their appetite grows exponentially w/ their size so just get ready. it'll be need a large large cage by the end of the year.
