  1. so it doesn't hide the ball when people are at bat.

The ball stands out more in the Black making it easier for the batters to see it. If people sat there the different colors of the shirts and seats would make it almost impossible to see an 94 mph ball

  2. so the batter can see the ball coming out of the pitchers hand better

  3. Back in the day at Wrigley Field, the "bleacher bums" used to be able to sit in these seats.  They used to wear white under shirts and something with more color on top.  When the Cubs were up to bat they would keep the color on, but when the opposing team came up they would take off their colored shirts for their white shirts.  By doing this they would cut down the hitters reaction time and his read on the pitcher because the ball would blend right into the fans white shirts making it very hard for the hitter to pick up on the pitch.  This is why fans are no longer able to sit there and why it's usually painted or there's a tarp with a darker color.

  4. Sections such as the black tarps at Yankee Stadium or green painted fences are called the "batter's eyes" meaning that it allows for the batter to better see the pitched ball.  Imagine if there were no batter's eyes and people sat directly in the batters sight lines wearing all white shirts.

  5. SO THE BATTER CAN SEE THE BALL COMING OUT OF THE PITCHERS HAND.
