I need money from my bank account but my mom wont let me take it out. This is money I made at MY job so I feel I deserve it. I turn 16 next month and I heard when you turn 16 you can take control of your account. Is this true??

  1. The biggest question is: Are you a signer on the account? If when you setup the account you and your mom signed the signature card you own the money just as much as she does. All you have to do is take your ID (your new driver's license!) to the Bank and tell them you would like to make a withdrawl but you don't have any checks (if it is a checking account). If it is a savings account, just tell them you would like to make a withdrawal. If the account is owned jointly by you and your mom and the account requires two signatures, then you have a problem.

The easiest way to figure this out is to call the Bank! Tell them you would like to make a withdrawal and ask them what you need to do!

    Hope this helps!

  2. You have to be 18 to control your own account.

  3. No, I am sorry, what you feel is not true. You have to be 18 to be a legal signer on a deposit account. I am sorry about that. But all legal signers on a deposit account must be 18. I hate to tell you, but until you are 18, your parents own you. It sucks, but it is what it is.
