Question:

Question about becoming a foster parent?

My husband and I are interested in becoming foster parents in the state of Idaho. However, I was arrested and charged with criminal trespass at the age of 18 in New York (about 12 years ago). I was fingerprinted and gave a false name.

Would this disqualify me? Should I be upfront about my situation? It's a little awkward since I gave a fake name. I'm not sure what would happen.

  1. They will do a fingerprint check on you and when we had ours down for adoption they checked, local, state, federal (FBI) database.  Because you gave a false name, most likely there is some type of warrent or something for you "fingerprints".  Just be ready, it may not come up, or it could open a can of worms.  Even if you fess up, it is still going to be an issue because you lied.  I would just be honest and see what happens.

  2. I would just be honest and explain the situation. Then it will be for them to decide if you would be a good parent/role model for the child. Don't lie because if you do, it will say that you really haven't changed. Good luck.

  3. If you were 18, they will probablly look past it.

  4. misdemeanors  are forgiven after several years... Was it a felony? Were you charged for giving a false name as well?

Why were you trespassing.... Can u explain a little more?

  5. Admit to anything that will show up on your record. If you gave a fake name and they don't have your license or social it won't come up. I say start out clean because your prints will tell on you. None of what you said will disqualify you.
