I keep on hearing that you need to have a degree to become an officer in the military. I assume it's a bachelors. Is that right? Does it have to be in any specific thing?

  1. depending on the type of military you choose, a Bachelors degree is very helpful. There are times that I knew about,  back in the 1960's some soldiers would be asked to enroll into OCS, (Officer Candidate School) in infantry.

  2. This is how it works in the Army.  If you have a bachelors degree, you can go directly to OCS.  If not, you can enlist, do green to gold, or get at least 90 credit hours and go to OCS.  You can go without a degree (minimun of 90 hours), but you won't see Captain until you finish your degree.  It does not matter what your degree is in the Army, just as long as you have one.

I came in enlisted, with a masters actually, and went to OCS after 5 years and am now a Captain.

  3. Yes, you need a bachelors degree from an accredited school.

  4. Right. Not really but if you have something in mind for a career I'd pick something all that line. ROTC can help also.

  5. 4 year degree.  depending on branch of Service.. it needs to be a 3.5 or better GPA in a hard science or technical major like engineering.

Currently the AF takes almost zero non tech degrees period, and the Navy is also very picky.
