Question about being a Marine Corps officer?

If you're an officer can you get stationed wherever you want? What if you're in charge of a recruiting district or station...they have those in every city, so won't you be able to choose the city you're stationed in?

If I become an officer I want to be in charge of the recruiting stations so I can work in the city nearest my hometown because there is no Marine Corps base near my home...but is that how it works? would I be able to choose?

  1. Officers who get recruiting duty are not regular officers..You cant just become a officer and then be in charge of a recruiting region or district..

You need alot of time in the USMC first..You must earn your bones before you can get special duties such as recruiting and drill instructor..

No you do not choose..You do know you need a 4 year college degree before you can apply to become a officer, yes? and then you must go through the program to become a USMC officer..This is what you need to worry about right now..How about you become a Marine first, then you can look into all these demands you have..I think you are in for a huge surprise.

  2. Officers, as well as enlisted personnel go where they are needed. I have yet to see an Officer at a recruiting center. This is usually handled by E-5 and above enlisted personnel.

  3. No you cannot simply choose, you get to list your preferences and if you exceed the expectations may may get your first choice, the marine corps is going to put you where they need you. Also you will not only be in recruiting you will have to serve time in other jobs and will most likely have to do many other things before recruiting.

  4. You can't recruit until you have served your time in active duty.  Once that is complete, and your still alive, then I would recommend you talking to the recruiters in the office.  They will tell you how to get in there and what you ahve to do...

  5. Just go Reserves and then you can stay at home and only work one weekend a month.

  6. No, you cannot choose.   Marine officers are asked to list their preferences, but they go where they corps needs them.
