  1. The cutoff age for an entry level Marine is 28. However like most things, it IS waiverable. I put a 32 y/o male in. In order to get the waiver your ASVAB score must be very high and you must be physically fit and able to pass the PFT before you leave for boot camp. The recruiter will administer the PFT and if you qualify, will submit your waiver.

If your scores are high enough, do what interests you most! You want to at least like what you signed on to do for the next 4-6 years.

The Marines offer the same benefits as everyone else: 30 paid vacation/yr + holidays (if your unit isn't deployed or doing an excercise), free medical and dental care, free lodging and meals, tuition assistance and the GI Bill. There are many intangible benefits you will reap as a Marine also. Pride of belonging, self-discipline, and leadership skills, to name a few.

Good luck in whatever you chose to do!

    Semper Fi!

  2. I'm not even sure that you can join at all i cannot remember the cutoff limits for age i'm not trying to crush your dreams but you might want to rethink at your age it would not be easy or it might be easier due to your personal experience. As for the benefits its what you want to take away from it discipline, commitment, leadership and of course confidence are just some of the attributes you might gain but whatever you choose good luck!

  3. I spoke to a recruiter for the Marines just the other day.  When he asked my age, I responded with thirty.  He said that their cut off for age was 28.

  4. The above poster is wrong. You are not passed the age limit.

If that's what you do i say go for it and follow your dreams/goals. It is a great career move.

I'm 29 and will be heading off to army training in 2 months time.

If you're fit enough you will do fine and you will have something these little 18 and 19year olds don't have and that is life experience.

MP is a great choice if that is really what you want.

You should go ahead and do the tests and see what is on offer to you. You may find there are career choices you didn't think you were experienced enough for pop up.

And I'mm not sure what benefits a biotechnology background can get you, but its a good leg up compared to most of the people who join.

    good luck with your decision
