Question about being induced?!?

As of today I am 9 days overdue, and I have a scheduled induction tomorrow and I am finally starting to get nervous. What should I expect? I heard that being induced often leads to shorter labor but the contractions are a lot more painful. I just want to hear of any experiences you have had with being induced and if you have any tips for me it would be greatly appreciated. Tonight my family is taking me out for a nice dinner to help relax me =D but I could really use some advice about the actual labor itself. Thanks.

  1. If you are getting a epidural then it really doesn't make a huge difference. Yes the contractions and pain will come faster and harder but I just ask for the drugs faster. :p

I have never had a labor last longer than 5 hours.

If you plan to have a natural child birth no drugs as I can say is good luck cause its gonna hurt like h**l. When you go natural you gradually work your body into labor being able to handle the pain alittle more and more but with being induced it comes so fast you don't have time to take a breathe.

I'm not trying to scare you just be realistic with you!

Good Luck, I loved being induced!

  2. My first was induced. This is what they did with me. I went to the hospital at 12 noon, gave me an IV of Saline and patossen to get labor moving.  Once the contractions started I got an epidural. 4pm. My progression stalled at 4 cm at 8pm. The Dr broke my water to get me moving again at 11pm. I was able to sleep off and on until 7 am (the last time I have been able to do that for a while lol) They checked me at 730am I was almost ready. They called the Dr and i started to push at 8am..3 pushes and she crowned, they told me not to push because the Dr. wasn't there yet (Late 15 mins) Dr came in 4 more pushes and she was out. Oh yeah they tapered the epidural at 730 so i felt the birth. That was important to me. I wanted to fell what was happening. All in all it was a great experience. We were able to have enough time waiting to call everyone and let them know that we having the baby.

    Congrats Mama!!

  3. Hunny enjoy that dinner!  I was induced due to preeclampsia.  Are you getting the pitocin or the gel?  I got pitocin.  The contractions don't hurt more, they just start faster and progress faster then naturally going into labor.  You will not experience any of that 7-5 minutes apart, you will jump straight to active labor of contractions 2-3 minutes apart lasting a long time.  With pitocin, they will start you off with a small dose and add more to the dose every hour until you start labor.  once you start labor they will wait until you are at least 4cm and then break your water.  Then the fun really starts.  Your contractions will be one on top of the other.  then when you think you can't take it anymore, you will tell them you want the drugs then they check you first and say "no need your ready to push."  Just relax and don't stress.  Remember to stay calm once that labor starts.

Also dont let people scare you with that whole "you will end up in a c-section" c**p.  Just explain to the doctor you want to avoid a c-section as much as possible.  If your labor doesnt progress fast enough and tehy suggest a c-section you can say no.

Enjoy your dinner, you probably wont sleep long tonight (I didnt when I knew I was getting induced the next day) and just enjoy yourself for now.  Goodluck and an early congrats

  4. yes the contractions are more painful. I was induced twice. The firt time I was in labor for 8 hours and the second time only 5 hours.  I just wonder what it is like to go into labor naturally.

Good lUck you will be fine.
