  1. Loosen the screws on the roller so the belt goes slack and take it off.

Put a new on and then tighten it up again. Don't make it very tight, it needs to be just a bit loose.

    Good luck.

  2. You normally want to change the belt when you start to see bare spots on the sanding surface. Depending on how your sanding, parts of the belt will wear out sooner than others. If your having trouble seeing if it is worn out, just simply run your hand over the belt, if it feels smooth in an area it needs to be changed.

Depending on what kind of wood your sanding and how you are sanding determines how often you need to change your belt. Just be on the lookout for bare spots or rips and holes.

  3. when it doesnt take alot of material off the surface! but remeber a new belt will take off 5-10x's more material, it might be a good idea to wear it out a little before tackling a high visible area, as an unsightly 2mm deep gouge isnt a good idea lol!!

i usually replace the belt when i can rub my fingers over it (stopped) and there are no real abrasion happening to my finger, i feel more heat being generated than material loss!

with a new belt, i genraly run it quickly on concrete to take the high bits and loose bits off!  and i keep the finished belt to do a quick run over after the rough has been done!!
