You are looking at 2 screens at the OTB. One is a race with 10 horses. You like the 3-1 . Well the other screen has a 3-1 with 6 horses in the race, Why would any one bet the 10 horse race?

  1. If you believe the 3-1 horse in the 10 horse field has a greater than 25% chance to win, it is a good bet. It does not matter how many horse are in the field, it only matters what chances you give the horse to win.

The race with 6 horses could have 4 equally good horses, and the 10 horse field could only have one good horse going at 3-1.

Of course this depends on your ability to know how good a horse is, and assign close to correct true odds.

  2. that is easy......

in a 10 horse field..your chances of winning is 10-1,

in a 6 horse field.. your chances of winning is 6-1.

    race 1....you like the 3-1 shot...but have 4 horses over 10-1

    race 2....you like the 3-1 shot..but have 1 horse over 6-1...

you go with race 1..because he has alot of plugs he is racing

    against.

  3. The reason you might consider the 10 horse field is that the 3-1 horse might look like the dominant horse with no ligament contenders. While the 6 horse field may have some contenders that may be capable of a challenge.
