Question about braces, expanders, & spacers ?

Question

i have really crooked teeth and some of my teeth are permanently behind others. i definately need braces & probably a spacer, but im not sure if i need an expander. i think i do because my jaw is pretty small and some of my teeth cant fit in my bite. well my question is what is the order you have to have them in? & for how long?

I didn't have overlapping teeth, but here's what I went through:

1) expander-about 6 months

2) spacers- a couple weeks (in prep for braces)

3) braces- 2 sessions of 1.5 yrs

I had spacers in for a week to make room for the bands that were going around my teeth. I had a stabilizer on the roof of my mouth for about a year and a half. I had a combo of 5 retainers and braces from 5th grade till 12th grade. Don't like this scare you.. I had a very bad cross bite, with my jaw popping out every time i bit down, and my front teeth were pointed in a triangle. Its so worth it though, my bite is so much better, straight, and my jaw doesn't pop out as much.. get a consultation to see what would need to be done.

OMG! iM SO HAPPY U ASKED..!

i HAD ALL THiS AND iM NOW IN THE LAST MONTH OF BRACES.!

FIRST OFF. AN EXPANDER ISNT AS BAD AS YU THINK!

IN FACT IT DOSNT EVEN HURT AS MUCH AS THE ACTUAL BRACES MOVING YOUR TEETH.

WHEN YOU CRANK YOUR EXPANDER YOU NEED TO BE SURE NOT TO OVER CRANK IT AND ONLY DO IT AS MUCH AS DIRECTED OR ELS YOU CAN SIMPLY SNAP YOUR JAW, NOT SAYING ITS LIKELY BUT SOME PPL MAY THINK THEY CAN CRANK THERE EXPANDER 27 TIMES THEN JUST NEVER HAVE TO CRANK IT AGAIN & HAVE A WIDE ENOUGH JAW WITHIN AN HOUR LOl! AND THAT WILL NOT WORK!! SO ONLY DO IT AS DIRECTED,.

1ST YOU GET SPACERS WICH IS THESE LIL BLUE PLUG LOOKIN THINGS & THEY PUT THEM LIKE FLOSS IN BETWEEN ALL YOUR BACK TEETH THAT WAY THEY CAN FIT YOUR BRACKETS ON.

THESE STAY ON FOR LIKE A WEEK B4 YOU GET YOUR BRACES. (MY TEETH WERE ALREADY SPACES ENOUGH THAT THEY DIDNT HURT BUT FRIENDS HAVE SAID OTHERWISE LOL)

2END EXPANDER. 3RD BRACES BUT ITL BE THE SAME DAY YOU WONT KNOW WHEN THEYRE DOING EITHER YOUL JUST BE DONE AND HAVE IT ALL.

UGH,,, THE ONLY OTHER RANDOM ADVICE IT TO BE SURE TO WEAR YOUR RUBBERBANDS WHENEVER YOU GET THEM!!!! WEAR THEM NO MATTER HOW UNCOMFTERBUL THEY ARE!!!

THEY WORK AND SPEED THINGS UP SOO MUCH!

ALSO BRUSH ALOT & FLOSS!!! YOU STILL NEED TO FLOSS BECAUSE IT IS ALOT EASIER TO GET FOOD STUCK AND NOT BRUSH IT OUT AND IT JUST BE THERE,, YOU NEED TO FLOSS IT OUT OR YOUL GET CAVITIES. ALSO BRUSH YOUR FRONT TEETH SO THAT THERE CLEAN AND NOT COTTAGE CHEESE LIKE! THATS SOOO NASTY FOR PPL WITH BRACES TO HAVE!

AND ALSO 6 MONTHS IS ABOUT HOW LONG YOUR EXPANDER WILL BE ON AND YOUL ONLY NEED 1 IF YOUR JAW IS MORE SHAPED LIKE A [ V ] AND IT NEEDS TA BE SHAPED LIKE A [ U ]

SO YEAH HOPE THAT HELPSSS!!!

I WOULD GUESS 6-7 THOUSAND ... PRICEY BUT WORTH IT!

ALSO DONT BE ASHAMED TO SMILE WITH BRACES!! PPL KNOW YOUR GETTIN EM FIXED SO WHAT IF THERE A LIL CROOKED>!? THEY WONT BE FOR LONG!!!

dont worry about expanders and spacers

go see an orthodontist and get braces and they will give you all the necessary treatment, and you will have perfect teeth in about 3 years, but theyll look good after about 6months
