Question:

Question about brackets for braces?

My son just got braces yesterday and already he has had 7 brackets fall off. One came off in the car on the way home from the dentist, 3 more came off when he was eating mashed potatoes and 2 came off last night as he was brushing his teeth. Should brackets fall off llike this? I called the denist and the receptionist said that I may end up having to pay for the brackets because the insurance might not pay for it. I don't think the assistant glued them on right. I could understand 1 falling off but to have 7 fall off. I called as soon as the first one came off but they had already left for the day.

  1. woah. they obviouslky didnt use enough glue!!!

yeah, if they felll of when he was eating mashed potatoes...theres no way. i had 2 brackets break off when i ahd my braces and once it was cause i ate one of those really hard valentines day candy hearts, and another was because i bit down ona piece of really crispy chicken!

so no, that should not be happening!

    actually, im pretty shocked...

i remember that at my ortho, i got the 3 first brackets that fell of i got them replaced for free but then i would have to pay an additional $75 or something each one after that...thankfully i only broke 2. most places have a sort of "deal" like that

you should not have to pay for those brackets. peroid. that is all teh orthos fault for not putting enough glue on, or not making sure that the bracket ahd bonded correctly to the glue adn teeth.

also, this si considered an emergency. when you lose a bracket it delays treatment time. so since your son has lost 7, then they should be able to make time for you and rush you in for an appt to fix it.

and youre very right, by aug.27 theyll porbably all have fallen off!

    man, that is jsut ridiculous!

keep on phoning back and urging to have an appt...

or just show up at the office!!

    good luck!

  2. wow i don't think that's normal

    that's bad haha. sorry

    get him an appointment PRONTO!

  3. Im sure that is not normal. Ive had mine on for about 3 mths now and none of them have fallen off. I would call and ask for the ortho or take him over there and request to see the ortho ASAP.

If there is nothing they will do, Id see another orthodonist.

  4. That happened to me to. Dose he have the "newer braces" that are silver and dont have any color. They have little doors that dont let go of the weir. As soon as you bite down on something and it hits you bracket it falls off. If it happens a lot they will just put a ring around his tooth

  5. I've just recently had mine off and mine never fell off in the four years I had them on even though I ate as normal. This should not be happening and doesn't seem like it is your fault if they're falling off like that. it appears to be the oorthodontist  hasn't taken enough care in gluing them on properly. They should not make you pay for it.

  6. That is not normal

I have braces and i lost my first brackets 3 months after i got them on

The orthodontist did not charge me and the reason my braces came off was because i ate hard foods including steak and gum.

That is not normal to have 7 braces fall off

  7. Brackets aren't supposed to fall off. They're supposed to hold up for the entire time while you have braces I have braces and no brackets of mine fell off. So talk to the dentist ir switch dentist's.

  8. Wow. Either he was brushing really really really hard or you have a sucky ortho. [no offfense].

That is wayy to many to be falling off. Complain toour ortho.
