Question about brain surgery?

my mom has neurology. She's considering having brain surgery because the migraines she gets are so bad. Are there any other options than this.I'm really afraid for her.

There are around a dozen prescription meds that are used for migraines.  Some are very effective for some people, but not everyone can find a med that works.   It would be irresponsible for a doctor to recommend neurosurgery without trying the meds first, unless there is a reason your mom can't take any of the meds.  

One thing you should be aware of is that surgery for migraines is not brain surgery unless there is a tumor or something abnormal identified in the brain that can be fixed, otherwise,  doctors would have no way of knowing what to remove.   Surgery for migraines is usually performed on a variety of nerves and muscles on the face and scalp.

Check back with your mom to see if you or she misunderstood what migraine surgery involves.

Im pretty sure brain surgury is not the right method to deal with your moms migraines. I suggest she undergo an MRI. From then on the neurologist will be able to tell the both of you what is the cause of her migraines, and woudl better decide the best alternative to deal with her migraines.

There are generally many options to migraines depending on the cause.  Surgery, regardless of what the problem is, always considered the last option you want to take.  I don't know what having neurology means, other than taking a college level course.  Certainly your mother should see a neurologist.  If surgery is recommended, which would be hard to believe, I would then request two other independent neurologists to look at her and give their opinions.  Very, very rarely is surgery recommended for migraines.  When it does happen, your mother will be giving up a lot
