I am wanting to pump some breast milk for later tonight. I was going to store it in the fridge but what should I do to reheat it? Does it microwave? If so for how long do I heat it? I feel dumb for asking, I've just only been a mother since Sunday.

  1. CAUTION: Never microwave breast milk. Microwaving can cause severe burns to baby’s mouth from hot spots that develop in the milk during microwaving. Microwaving can also change the composition of breast milk.

You can place the sealed container of breast milk in a bowl of warm water for about 10-15 minutes to bring it to body temperature. I hope this helps.

  2. Fill a pot with warm/hot water and put the bottle in it to warm. There are electric bottle warmers that you can buy. Turn the bottle upside down then back up and check the temp. Many people microwave the milk but it is said that not all of the milk heats evenly and you can scald a baby's mouth. That said, I microwaved my daughter's bottles with breast milk and formula.  Start with about 20 seconds and go from there.

  3. Everything I have read in the past says not to reheat in the microwave. It creates hot pockets that can burn the babies mouth. Just run it under some hot water for a few minutes to warm it. Also, store it in the back of the fridge...not the front or the door. Best of luck!
