Someone i know wants a system in their car and wants to know what all is necessary. In my car about 2 year ago I got 2, 12in subs with a 1,000 watt amp and i like my system but since then i forgot all about what to look for. Theyre looking for 1, 10in sub. How powerful of an amp do you need for that? and can a stock deck run a sub or would you also have to buy a new deck?

  1. A very basic system should be reletively inexpensive and sound good.  your friend is on the right track, to go slow and take a taste of getting a system before you give up lots of money and the whole trunk space thing.

dont get trapped into buying a new radio, your stock will work just fine and no crook ever broke in to steal a stock radio, (that would be too embarrassing for the crook)

1 10" sub running 200-400 watts rms with a nice amp should sound great.  try to add a set of tweeters to enhance the experience.  All bass and no clarity of the sound could be a turn off for a new guy.  local stereo shops are all over this type of job, as it gets new blood customers into the world that is car audio.

At our shop, we would offer your guy a Pioneer Premier 10" woofer , 400 rms w/ 2 year warranty (100), Pioneer 400 rms bass amp(200), Box, install, and a bass k**b (120), Kenwood tweeters installed at (80), Total 500 out the door, Sounding good and full warranty for everything from tweeter to amp to sub.

  2. well when buying a system you have to look at what kind of wattage the speaker you want can handle, be sure to look at the rms wattage peak/max wattage doesnt matter at all.

after you figure out what kind of sub you want look for an amp that puts out the same amount of power in rms as the sub can handle. dont forget about ohms if you want a single sub id go for a 4 ohm sub so you can wire it in parrrelel to make 2 ohms, cause most amps can handle any less then that.you can stick with a stock deck but you need to get a line out converter which turns speaker wire in to rca's you you can give the amp a signal.
