Question about car insurance in Canada.

I am 17 year old male and living in Canada. My dad has one car under his name, my mom doesn't drive. I have my G2 license, therefore I can legally drive on my own. I am currently insured under my dads car. If I were to buy a car for myself, would I be able to put it under my dad's insurance, and therefore be like a secondary driver because insurance would be much lower than as a first driver especially as a male at this age. Is it possible to have more than one car under your name and have other people in your family insured on them? Hopefully someone can explain this to me.
