Question:

Question about car price

I am planning to buy a car, and the other day I saw an Acura 2002 3.2TL. It comes with all standard specifics, and looks quite well-maintained. So far it has been driven 100-110k. The current owner is asking for $7500. I'm wondering if that's a reasonable price for this car. Thank you for your input.

  1. That is about 3 thousand too high. This car may look great but is probably in need of breaks, fuel pump, surpenteen belt and many more costly little things. That's usually why they trade them in at 100k miles. The dealer would give them about 3 to 4 thousand dollars for it.

  2. If your Canadian (I think you are) then its a good price.  With the amount of KM on it and if that car is in good shape its worth about 9100-10600 depending on body and running condition. Check it out yourself here.

  3. The best way to check if prices are fair is to go to the NADA website and enter all the information on the vehicle, such as mileage and features.  Visit the website, that way you can check prices of other vehicles you are interested in.  Also know that no mattter it looks like, or what they tell you- no car is even in excellent condition for value purposes.  Look at the prices for good condition to get your estimates.  And keep in mind you will have to pay additional money for taxes and registering the vehicle in your name- so keep that in mind when you plan a budget.  Make sure and ask questions like: has it ever been in an accident, even a little fender bender?  What major repairs have been completed? (you want to know so you can be aware of what has been done and what you will soon have to take care of!)

Remember that looks can be decieving. Just because a car looks immaculate doesn't mean the oil changes, tire rotations, and all that junk have been done- but sometimes it does.  Look in crevices for dirt and such to see the type of care they took of the vehicle- things a decent cleaning won't neccesarily cover.

  4. Go for what you think, a slightly lower price would be maybe better but it depends on the condition. I would go for the lowest and cheapest priice possible but that maybe a little risky. Try to reduce the price a little and if not think carefully if you would buy it for however much the owner is asking for it.
