I am planning to buy a used car from someone. If I put my name under the title as buyer. Will I still be able to buy insurance under my dads name.

I dunno how to explain this clearly but here is the deal.

Since my dad been driving for many year insurance under his name will be cheaper.

Thanks

If I buy a car (and on the title I put myself as the buyer) Can I still have the car insurance using my dad's name?

  1. Try using http://My-InsuranceSearch.com to compare car insurance rates for all the major providers in your area.

  2. If your dad will register the car and hold title legally, the insurance will be cheaper, yes.

Why would you want to have your name on the title?

No good reason that I can see, unless he said that you can't buy a particular car (or type of car) to do this.

Ask your dad to title the car...

  3. put the title in your name yes, But register it under his name and yours(multipul drivers). simple as that.  It works that way in S.L.C. at least.

  4. Yes you can, I have that issue now with my children. It will mean you can qualify for multi-car discounts as well. I have my car, my daughter is buying her car and my fiance has his truck. But if you want full coverage most insurance company's want to see the vehicle and take pictures just in case there is ever an accident they have what the car looked like  beforehand. In most cases, it doesn't matter that title are in different names.

  5. Depends.  Do you are your dad live at the same address, and are you under 18?  If yes, no problem.  If "no" to either question, it becomes iffy and you'd have to discuss it with your insurance agent.

Generally speaking if you are the title holder, you are the primary, and even adding dad as secondary driver would not help much.

  6. It depends on the state you live in. You'll need to check insurance websites on rules.

  7. easiest and best way to get a correct answer is to call your Dads insurer. Since companies have different policies for coverage, only they can tell you. Normally, the owner of the vehicle has to have their own insurance.
