if a car makes a little ticking sound right after its been driven is that necessarily a bad thing or is it just because the engine was just on and its cooling down or something?

its a dodge charger if that makes a difference

  1. all cars do that!. that ticking you hear is the engine cooling down.


  2. That's the sound of expansion and contraction. When a car heats up, it will make clicking sounds. It stops after it's cooled down.

  3. 1) Do you see any leaks? Is the car burning oil? Are other fluid levels disappearing? Are the oil/coolant/fluid levels OK? Do you have any loose or rattling components under the car? Does the car blow white smoke when it first starts, or when it's very hot? Does the exhaust have any oil or water in it?

    2) Are belts & hoses OK & adjusted properly?

    If all #1 answers are "no" & all #2 answers are "yes", probably not a big deal. Just keep an eye on things.
