We want to find a way to help the not as fortunate girls in our town, to get some nice clothing for free. Any Ideas? And is there any clothing stores or department stores you know of that would donate to the masons and shriners for this cause?

Thankz!

  1. There are plenty of places that donate....Check you local stores. As for people making remarks about what they wear you can talk to others and tell them how self-centered they appear. These kids cannot help what their economic situation is. Unemployment is on the rise ..... things like this happen. People need to try and treat their fellow man with a little more respect . I know mine do and I'm proud they were raised right. The fact that you are trying to help tells me you were raised right as well. I do wish you luck.

  2. Well if you lived near us I could tell you where to go. My wife and I do the clothes closet for the church we attend we have clothes running out of our ears lol In fact we got so many clothes I had to rent a storage building to put them in. To bad you do not live close to us you could have all the clothes you want.

We was going to send to the Mountains in Tennesse but the church ran out of money when we sent toys to India for Christmas

  3. Department stores will NOT donate clothes, under any circumstances. Everyone of them have very, VERY strict guidelines about this.

Also, the not-so-fortunate girls in your town, and their families, will probably bristle at the idea of wearing donated clothes. It's a matter of pride/self-esteem.

Clothes are actually quite affordable in the USA. Other things that are much more needed, like school supplies, are not. And it's MUCH easier to get school supplies donated than clothes. However, you might consider offering the supplies at very low cost, rather than free -- NGOs all over the world find that people value items and services more if they pay something for them, even a tiny amount.

  4. I would look at the ppl closest to me. How about 'adopting' these girls and getting the shriners and masons to give a bit each month. The girls would be thrilled to get just a few new items at a time.

Being that I dress from charity shops (I'm not poor, just frugal.) I suggest that with help these girls could stretch their dollars by buying used. There are also upscale resale shops.

I have three teenage granddaughters. Two shop with me in the charity shops, the other has only what she can 'afford' from the mall. Sigh!

You might check with the charity shops in your area (Savers, Goodwill, Salvation Army . . . etc.) to see if they could give the girls a 'budget' to get them started. I think you'd find a lot of giving hearts to help them.

We also had a discussion of Freecycle (a Yahoo Group) that is in most areas. It's a good place to find used items too good to toss. I bet there are some clothes in their size there.
