  1. probably not because the golden was just trying to defend either its owner or its teritory.

  2. Barking is not a vicious behaviour in most dogs at most times.  Snarling is a behaviour I'd be worried about, not barking.  Barking and chasing in dogs usually means "Play with me, play with me, play with me, why won't you play with me, play with me PLEEEEEEEEEEASE!"  And if the dog in question puts the front half of its body down and its rump up in the air, that is a definite "play with me!" sign and is called, accordingly, a "Play Bow".

However, with a large size difference your dog could get accidently hurt during play, but I highly doubt the golden would kill him.

  3. No, when dogs do this it's coz they want to be friends, retrievers are one of the most friendliest breeds, if you weren't there they'd be playing.

But because retrievers are a bigger breed they would make themselves dominant of your dog. ;)
