Question:

Question about college and pay?

I'm stuck between English, Chemistry and Poly-Sci.

Part of me just wants to take some college English classes just for the heck of it even though I know the jobs after that won't pay diddly.

Anything outside of the medical field because I know there's no way I could afford to spend all those years in school and then deal with the stress and bad hours.

I love Chemistry and I'm so good at it. My HS Chem. class doesn't have the best equipment, but I was thrown into a summer class with some kids from the best private and public schools around and was obviously the best and the fastest learner out of all of the (not to brag, but I do feel pretty proud. And I'm younger than they are too. Go me!)

Political science is also something I'm interested in. For some reason, this presidential election has really flipped some switch in me that says "Hey! This is really for you!" And has really opened my eyes to the rapid decay of Cleveland, OH (where I live). But, being a civil servant doesn't bring in the big bucks from what I'm told.

What the starting salaries of some of the positions in these fields?

And, can I double major in some science like Chemistry and Poly-Sci?

  1. You can double-major in anything.  If you get started on it early, it shouldn't take you more than 4 years to finish.  If I were you, I'd go with chemistry first - you can always get a job in a lab somewhere, or go for an advanced degree and do research and/or teach college.  And if you go for public office later on, well, we could always use more politicians who understand basic science.
