Question about college?

Okay, I'm going to be a freshman in the fall of this year and I plan to be a speech-language pathologist.

I took Spanish in high school, but I'm interested in Asian languages....so I thought I'd take Korean in college. My parents seem to think that I should stick with Spanish because the hispanic population in the US is rising.

But.........couldn't I very well minor in Spanish but take Korean for my required foreign language?

This way....wouldn't it appear that everyone wins?

I've been going to college for 14 years now! Unfortunately I never majored in foreign languages. My opinion is that there are so many Spanish majors and a lot less Asian majors. I'd bet you would be in demand somewhere if you majored in Korean. If you majored in Spanish you would have a lot of competition.

Ha! I keep clicking on your questions. To tell you the truth, if you minored in just Spanish or just Korean, it would satisfy your foreign language requirement and you wouldn't need the second. If you want to take both, do it! There's good reason to take both: Spanish because your parents are right about it being the more helpful language, and Korean because you want to... and that's all that ever really matters.

take what YOU want. its going to be your career. And just FYI, if you need a foreign language for your major and are making a foreign language for your minor the classes you take will count for both. So you don't HAVE to take the two seperate languages.
