Question about community college?

Long story short, during the beginning of my senior year last year I got very ill and ended up in the hospital...I'd rather not go too much into it but by about April I ended up dropping out of high school due to health complications and frequent visits to the hospital and didn't end up graduating. After a really long recovery, I am now much healthier and decided to get my GED and go to a community college...when I started out my senior year however, I had always planned to go to University of Florida. I live in Orlando, FL...like 10 minutes away from Valencia Community College. I was thinking I'd go there for two years then transfer to UF...but then I heard that Santa Fe Community College, which is like right down the street from UF, guarantees transfer admissions into UF. Should I go to Santa Fe for the next two years so I can guarantee myself transfer into UF? Or would I have just as good a chance at Valencia (I hear it's ranked #1 among community colleges in the US)?

  1. Many CC's have transfer agreements with the Universities. If your not sure if Valencia has one or not- call and ask. If it's a highly ranked CC, it will almost certainly have transfer agreements with UF.

  2. Sounds like Santa Fe has an agreement with UF. If that is the case then I would definitely go to Santa  Fe. Before you decide make sure that it is a guarantee admission because there are other agreement that give priority consideration rather than guarantee. Also check out the requirements to qualify for the agreement sometimes honor courses and community service is required. You would need to contact the transfer center or the counseling center at the community college.

  3. Your best next step, though, should be to ask UF about the college. make a question like this.

Which community college has more transferred students?

Does Santa Fe CC schedule classes at UF campus?

In any case, if you are good, UF will take you

    Best of luck

  4. I've gone to a community college for two years in Texas. They have a core program so if you take all the class under the 'core' description every public school will take the credits. As long as you keep your gpa up you shouldn't have to much of a problem transferring.
