I need 4 more hours of community service within a week or I cant graduate. I dont want to do some feed the homeless type of thing either.

Would lawn mowing, walking dogs, leaf raking, etc. for other people count? if it does I need some more ideas please. If I cant then I also need some suggestions. Thanks

  1. mowing lawns, walking dogs, and the other you mentioned above don't count. if you call the animal shelter and walk the dogs there, then it counts. the easiest way to get hours is going to the library and shelve books or read to the kids at story time.

  2. Contact  a local church or religious group.Sometimes they can hook you up with picking up groceries for the elderly, or small homerepairs, Painting a room, ETC.  worth a shot. Although if you were to feed the homeless,I would bet you would come out feeling better about yourself.  You would realize that these people are exactly that, people. They are down on their luck and need a helping hand every now and then. Community service is about helping others, there is no better way to help.  Community service is also supposed to make you realize you did something wrong and are headed down the wrong  road.  Someday you may be the one who needs the helping hand, how would you feel if people looked down upon you?

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site, http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

All list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations.

There's also this government sponsored site, http://volunteer.gov/gov/ which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc.

  4. What do you enjoy doing?

If you love sports help out with a Pee Wee league or at an after school program in your community.  Like animals? Your local animal shelter or humane society love volunteers.  Your local library could use your help in re-shelving books or cleaning covers in the kid's section. Call your local Girl or Boy Scout council and help out a troop or two.  (Maybe they'd like tutoring in the latest video game or enjoy sharing your favorite anime.)

The key is using your skills and passions to help someone else... Who know you might like it after all.
