Question:

Question about company drug insurance plans (Canada)?

I work for a company based in Canada and I am insured with Great West Life through company benefits. I am covered for drug insurance. I am currently taking prescription drugs that are relatively expensive and I am considering trying to get coverage under my plan.

I am reluctant to do so because I do not want anybody I work with to know

1) what drugs I take

2) what condition I have

I would like to know if this information is kept 100% confidential or do I have to reveal the drugs I need and the condition I have in order to get covered?

  1. The only one who's going to know what meds your on will be Great West.  There's no need for your employer to know, and that information should not be divulged by Great West.

  2. i don't know.

  3. If you are already covered for drug insurance as you stated then why do you need to try to get coverage under your plan...

Please clarify this statement or do you or don't you have prescription drug coverage? Your private health information is protected by the HIPPA law.
