if a race horse weighs a thousand pounds and a rider weighs 49 pounds, if i pretended i was a race horse and the back pack full of stuff was a person, i weigh 150 pounds, how much would the back pack full of stuff have to weigh so i know what it feels like to a race horse to carry a rider.

  1. 1000/49 = 150/x

    1000*x = 49*150

    x = (49*150)/1000

    x = 7.35

    7.35 pounds

  2. The average race horse is probably closer to 1200 pounds. A typical weight carried by a race horse is 125 pounds (jockey with pants, boots, and saddle). That means a race horse is carrying about 11% of his weight. So, 11% of 150 pounds is 16.5 pounds. So, you'd put 16.5 pounds in your backpack. Horses are much stronger than humans, however, so this probably is not an accurate comparison. I am sure 125 pounds on the back of a horse is not as noticeable to him as 16.5 pounds is on yours.

  3. Racehorses regularly carry between 108 to 126 pounds on their back while racing so picking a weight somewhere in between the 2, a 1000 lbs. horse carrying 115 lbs is carrying 11.5 % of the his body weight so a 150lb person carrying 11.5% of its body weight would have to carry 17.25 lbs.
