Question about corn oil...?

I have my fairly east keeper on a no grain diet (he gets a complete mult vitamin/mineral supplement and pretty much all the hay he wants) I would like to add some healthy fat to his diet for the health benefits. My first choice is Triple Crown rice bran oil plus... but at over 40 bucks a gallon I should check out my other options first. Does corn oil supply the omeaga 3 and 6 fatty acids like rice bran and flax?

i know people think that if a horse is an easy keeper they dont need added fat, but my horse isnt getting any at all, and i have been reading up on how important healthy fats are. thanks!

  1. i use corn oil with my 8 year old thoroughbred

and for a tb, with no rug on in the middle of winter( australia, so it aint snowing but reasonably cold) and lives in a paddock 24/7 he doing great!!!

i swear by it, therer are so many things on the market that are so MUCH cheaper than the "horse" c**p that we all buy for too much money

corn oil is cheap and effective

  2. I use corn oil with my TB, and vet says she's getting all she needs.

  3. I use omega 3 oils. ie, fish oils. Preferably salmon oil.

  4. Please remember horses are not humans - feeding a horse anything that is not a natural ingredient for a horse is dangerous. Horses do not eat salmon, why give them a product made from salmon??

Corn oil is a great fat for putting on weight / reducing the risks of impaction colic / and keeping the skin healthy and therefore a nice shiney coat.

If your horse is healthy and at a good weight and not prone to colic - don't worry you are doing a good job!!!

If it ain't broke - don't fix it!

  5. I don't like rice bran because it can cause severe allergies in horses, one of mine is highly allergic to it.

You could try Cocosoya - it has Omega 3, 6 and 9 and is 20% more digestable than regular corn oil. It's also only about $5 more expensive than a big bottle of corn oil.
