Hey guys, going on a cruise in 2 weeks, and its been bad timing lately, with a bunch of bills and stuff coming up I won't have a lot to spend. I am looking at taking $150-200 to spend on the cruise, and I don't drink or really want any gifts, so will that be enough, or will I need more?

  1. The gratuities will be added to your shipboard account, on most cruise lines, so you won't need cash for that unless you want to give someone more in cash.  Tips can be adjusted at the purser's desk, also.

$150-200 is going to be tight, especially if that's for more than one person.  You can do it if you don't use the casino, the spa, special fitness classes, don't drink [soda or alcohol], don't play bingo, stay out of the shops.  That amount might be stretchable for shore excursions, if you do your research ahead of time and figure out how to do them on your own, rather than through the ship.  Don't know what ports you're visiting, but some are easier/safer to do on your own than others, but the thing to remember is to ALWAYS make sure you get back to the ship on time - they will leave without you if you are late.  You can check out guidebooks at your library, or use the on-line versions of Fodor's and Frommer's, etc.  You can also get great info [including "Money-Saving Tips" at CruiseCritic.com.  Click on "Boards" then go to "Ports of Call", etc.  Although, at this point you don't have much time....

Good luck.  Hope you have a great cruise.

  2. you will need $10 a day for gratuities  but other than that most everything else is included...if you drink alcohol or soda there is an additional charge but if you pack a plastic bottle of your favorite liqueur in your suitcase you can utilize their free beverage options to supplement. I have gone on 4 days cruises and not spent over $100 and been on 7 day where Ive spent over $600....it will all depend on the extras...have fun and enjoy, if nothing else it will be a nice trip

  3. That should be cool,  If your cruising on Carnival you should get the daily drink special, then save the souvenier cup and the next drink is cheaper.  Also there bigger than most drinks and they are usually pretty loaded, so you wont need too many.  Have a great cruise....

  4. If you've already set aside money for gratuities and you've already signed up for what ever excursions you plan to take, you should be fine.  Pretty much everything except the gratuities is voluntary, so you can just opt not to buy drinks/souvenirs/etc.

  5. To save money get the soda card when you get there it will cost you like $50 but will be worth it.  just remember you have to tip your waiters, cleaners on the last day of the trip

  6. depends...

i just came back from norweigan spirit cruise to bahamas

we paid 3600$ total for 4 ppl and then they charged us $35 per day for a stupid gratitude. we didn't ask them to make the bed

we didn't even use room service cuz its better to go outside then stay in a small room- oh yeah, the room

the rooms r sooo tiny.. and they packed a sofa-bed in there with a bunk bed and then they brought in a mattress for the 4th person....

and the food plces had terrible service as well

its soo stupid, ran us almost $300 extra for nothing, we spent $20 in the cruise ship..

    so stupid..

wtf? y am i telling u this lol? sorry bought that.. u will have to pay $10 a day for nothing, if u can afford that, it will be enough

(u gotta pay 3.05 for a soda can)
