Question:

Question about cycling my tank?

I'm only about 2 weeks into it and my fishless cycle has an ammonia level of about 3.0 ppm with nitrates of 0.25 ppm.

Is the ammonia considered "spiked" or does it need to be raised more?

Basically I'm asking should I increase, decrease, or keep my ammonia supply at a constant?(currently 1 shrimp from grocery store and a 1 small pinch of fish food once a day)

Thank you in advance

  1. It took 5+ weeks for my tank to cycle and I thought I would go mad before it did (over eager, I know).  I finally bought 3 Tiger Barbs after 5 weeks and the tank cycled in 2 days.  Fish lived.  Good luck.

  2. i have know idea

  3. best way to cycle a fresh tropical tank is with feeder guppies. very hardy. about 10 cents each. takes a month or so.

otherwise than tropical, use feeder comets(common goldfish) also hardy.

i have also successfully used a product called Cycle. in fact if you dump some Cycle in the tank today, your micro pop will be near normal within 3 days.

  4. your ammonia levels need to be at zero keep doing partial water changes to help lower the levels some fish can cope with the nitrates at 0.25ppm but should be 10ppm or under i would stop the shrimp but just do the pinch of fish food hope this helps u out and good luck
