Question:

Question about decorating my kitchen

Ok, this probably seems like a very obvious question, but I haven't been a home-owner for that long and this is the first bit of decorating I've done really.

Yesterday I bought a whole new kitchen, will which hopefully be fitted within the next couple of weeks.

I would also like the change the flooring, which the kitchen company doesn't do, and re-paint.

Am I supposed to re-paint before the new kitchen goes in, or after?

And at what point do I get the floor re-done please?

Thanks for your help.

  1. Definitely paint first, so you don't have to worry so much about getting paint on your new things.  I would then do the flooring so that it goes all the way under your  new appliances and cupboards.  The place I just bought put in new flooring after wards, and when you open the cupboards you can see the old floor (nasty!) and they didn't even bother to move out the stove or fridge when they floored!  It looks cheap and lazy.  Make it look professional by covering the fact that there ever was a different floor.

  2. Hi.. Definitely paint your ceilings and walls two coats.. make sure that your floor is prepared to accept whatever you are putting down (often when you lift the old floor you will find it is not level or even) this could be a problem when it comes to laying tiles etc later.

most people then fit the units but leave the plinths off (bottom toe boards that fix to the front legs of the base units) there will normally still be chasing of the walls etc going on for the electrical supplies to the appliances & power points etc. (remember to set the adjustment on the legs high enough to clear any under worktop items like washing machine etc. & allowing for the thickness of the new floor, then the se can be pulled out again while the floor is done & then refitted again.

Please remember every job is different so these are only generalisations, the rule is do whatever needs doing when it needs to be done, you cant always plan it ahead so be flexible as trades may only do a bit then go away till they can do a bit more after others etc. so multiple visits may be required asnot normally able to do all electrics/ carpentry/ tiling etc. in one visit.

you also will need patience if you are going to co-ordinate the different trades yourself..

If you get stuck let me know

  3. get the       floor done first as the next work men will cover this also will not damage  your kitchen when fitting  fhen try get first coat of paint on before kitchen fitted  when your kitchen is fitted put on finish coat good luck

  4. Paint first.  At most the floor layers may put the odd scuff on your skiting board, but not even that if they're good.  Put the floor in after the kitchen is fitted.

  5. paint first. after everything, do the flooring.

  6. Repaint first - but be prepared to touch up after the fitters have been in. Flooring is last. Have fun - a new kitchen is great!

  7. I work for a remodeling construction company. 1st paint, 2nd put in the cabinets, 3rd paint cabinets, 4th floor, 5th put the sealer on the floor, 6th touch up any paint spots needed.

Note: on a door, or some wall... if you see smuges, and spots, or nicks...just repaint the whole side of the door again lightly

Every wall shold have 2 coats of paint

    Good Luck!

  8. I would absolutely paint first. Then your flooring should be done, then the cabinets.
