Question:

Question about diaper rash...?

My son is 14 months and he has a pretty bad diaper rash all over his bum... We had prior engagements to go to a birthday party tomorrow that will be at the park. It will be about 105 degrees outside. Do you think we should pass on the party? I don't want my son to be uncomfortable because of the rash... We are already using Budreaux's Butt paste... Do you have any other suggestions on how to treat it? It is all over his diaper area, I'm not sure how he got it, he was on antibiotics with diarrhea for a few weeks, maybe that was why? Please offer your suggestions, they would be very much appreciated.

  1. Use Desitine it works wonders on diaper rash and will clear most of it up over night. Yes your right that diarrhea will cause painful diaper rash. Hope he's better soon.

  2. My cream of choice is Desitin Original.  It is something like 40% zinc oxide.  While boudreauxs is like 11%. Also, don't use wipies on his bottom, they will burn.  Let him run around the house in just a diaper cover (like comes with onesie outfits), it will catch any number 2, but let his sore bottom breathe.  You will have to watch for pee though. lol. I always do this with my boys, they like to share viruses, and both are susceptible to diarrhea it seems.  it always works like a charm.  As far as the party, i would make that call tomorrow after checking out baby's bottom.  If he is only fussy about it while being changed, go ahead. But if it is hurting all the time, the heat could make him sweat and make him very uncomfortable.

  3. hi when my children had sore bums when they were babies i tried lying them on a changing mat without the diaper on as long as possible this helps it heel really quickly.otherwise i plastered there bum with sudocream.

  4. Desitin cream is really amazing. I works so well. Just put it on the night before. And in the morning its gone

  5. As much as I love the butt paste....

Try Desiten medicated night time rash cream (it comes in a purple and white tube.)

It has a higher concentration of zinc in it, which is what keeps baby dry.

My son had a HORRIBLE rash and that cleared it right up.

I suggest cleaning him gently during every diaper change and applying the cream each time (as tedious as it sounds)

Also, the brand of diaper you're using could be an issue also.

My son was using huggies and he kept getting rashes, so when we switched him to Pampers or LUVS he got better almost immediately.

I hope this helps you out. I feel for ya!

    -Dee

PS...I would say you could still take him to the birthday party, just get started on the desiten tonight.

  6. Zinc Zinc Zinc Zinc.......................can I say enough about zinc. A great skin healer and it wont wipe off

  7. It would probably be okay to go to the party just make sure he stays dry.

My daughter had a bad rash one time, and we used corn starch, I know sounds silly, but it worked. But if you use it too much it can give them a yeast infection, so maybe try for a few days and then stop after that.

    Good Luck.

  8. My 18 month old gets horrible rashes all of the time, and always has... he has extremely sensitive skin.  I have found that if I give him a bath and then let him run around for a while with no diaper on (or i pin on a cloth diaper to contain any possible messes)  Once he has had a good chance to air out and get nice and dry I put corn starch on his bottom.  It keeps the skin nice and dry, it also clears up the rash faster than most creams I have found.  the corn starch will also help keep  his bottom dry in the extreme heat at the party.  As far as creams I have found that the Method brand diaper cream (at Target) works really well.  It is a "green" product and clears up my boys bottoms better then Desitin, AD or budreaux... I have tried them all.

    Good Luck Enjoy the party

  9. you should skip the party.otherwise the baby will be cranky.you should also try a different cream for the rash.

  10. Zinc Oxide diaper rash will clear it up in 24 hrs is not it will look alot better and it should be gone in a week. My daughter had really bad diaper rash too. Let him run around with no diaper as much as possible to air it out. Thats the best for it.

  11. Butt Paste though a hilarious name never worked on my 3. Try triple antibiotic ointment (because there is probably an infection) and Desitine. First clean his bum with water try not to wipe if you can help it make. Make sure he is completely dry and then apply the ointment then put the Desitine over the ointment. This worked for all of my kids.  Good luck.

  12. I wouldn't cancel my plans with the party... the best advice I got was to put vaseline on my sons butt, they told me to do this when he had diarrhea, it kept the p**p from coming in contact with his skin... but in the case with you tomorrow you wont want the sweat or anything to come in contact with his skin so I would load him down with vaseline the whole time your outside, this will keep anything from irritating his skin any further then apply diaper rash cream after that.

  13. Just keep him clean and well dry and I'm sure he will still enjoy the party!

I use Destin..it usually gets rid of it in a few hours.

If it doesn't then that usually tells me it's a yeast infection. (yes, babies get them on there bum and they look almost identical to diaper rash, high possibility after the antibiotics) Your doctor should be able to give you something..I usually just give mine an iodine bath then blow dry them real well and smear Monostat on the rash before putting there diaper on. It will be gone in a day or so. ..

  14. change him often , let him dry for as long as possible, thin layer of desitin or anything with zinc in it, and then glob on vaseline over it, its the best barrier...and don't use baby wipes they irrate it, use damp paper towels..hang in there..

  15. I would take a pass on the party even if there wasn't diaper rash involved.  I'm so sick and tired of people having birthday parties outside in heat stroke weather.  No one could have fun in that weather and great grandma runs a chnance of keeling over.  105 degrees, where in the world do you live, that sux.

  16. boudreauxs will have it gone by the morning, if not sooner!!

  17. i'm not too sure if you can get these products if your in the states if that's where your from, but what i found when my daughter had nappy rash when she was a baby i used to mix vaseline and sudocream together.

the sudocream helped to heal the nappy rash and the vaseline created a barrier against any moisture that was around the area .just remember to change him as regularly as possible and keep the area as dry as possible. avoid baby wipes as they can sting at the moment and only use cotton balls with water to clean the area, avoid giving him juices as these will sting when he passes it. just give him plain water to drink for awhile until it's cleared up completely.

    hope this helps

  18. Try letting him go diaperless for an amount of time.  also try cleaning him with warm water and a wash cloth when you change him - then pat him dry.

Could he wear a cloth diaper to the party?  It would allow his area to breath easier.  Also, I know it wounds weird - but try putting Lanolin directly on the rash (you know the stuff you use for sore nipples when you are breast feeding - it can be bought anywhere!)

IT is safe for the baby and will heal it after only a couple of days.

Hope he feels better soon - diaper rash is no fun!
