Question about displaying P Plates?

Hi there,

Just a general question.. Does anybody know if it is illegal to display P Plates (either red or green) if you have your full license? I was randomly pulled over by the police for a breath test and after a short conversation with him was told that because I am on my green P's- if i do not have any left, i am able to use a red P in its place? He said that as a green P driver I am not gaining anything from having red Ps on my car???

Just wondering if this works for full license drivers?

Thx,

Nic.

  4. Not sure what state your in, but one year for red plates, and 3 years for green plates, and if caught displaying p plates on a full license could earn you a fine.

Supposedly this "new system" is identify novice drivers, also as you can see displaying red plates, means heavier restrictions.

    - Not allowed to drive "high powered vehicles"

    - Not allowed to tow - unless for work

    - Minimum age is 18

    - if over the age of 21 you will go straight to P2 (green plates)

    GREEN P PLATES (P2)

    - last for final 3 years

    - allowed to tow

    - allowed to use hands free mobile devices

    ALL P PLATERS

    - No alcohol in blood stream permitted at all. Anyone under the age of 26 with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .07 or higher, will have an alcohol interlock fitted to their car when they return to driving.

From 1 July 2007, a learner driver (under 21) must log at least 120 hours of supervised driving, including a minimum of 10 hours night driving, before they can apply for their probationary license.

A learner driver under 21 must stay on their learner permit for at least 12 months before they can apply for their probationary licence. They also have to carry their permit whenever they drive, with 120 hours of SUPERVISED DRIVING

A completed Learner Log Book, with a record of a minimum of 120 hours of supervised driving, must be presented when the learner is applying for their probationary licence. Each entry must be signed by the supervising driver, and the learner and supervising driver both must sign the 'Declaration of Completion'.

If you are a probationary driver and obtained your licence after 1 July 2007, you can't drive a vehicle with:

An engine of eight or more cylinders

    A turbocharged or supercharged engine
