You are driving 55 mph on a two-lane highway, one lane in each direction, and want to pass the car ahead of you. To pass safely, you need to:

a)Wait until solid double yellow lines separate the lanes

b)Increase your speed to 65 mph

c)Have at least a 10 t0 12 second gap in the oncoming traffic

if you can, provide your source, a CREDIBLE SITE would be great :D thanks!

  1. You definitely cannot pass on a double yellow line. If you increase your speed without anywhere to go, you could rear-end the person in front of you. If there's a gap in oncoming traffic, and you have enough time to accelerate, pass the car safely, and drive in front of it, while maintaining a reasonable speed. Don't attempt this on a curve, in less than ideal weather, or if you can't see far enough ahead. The dashed or dotted lines indicate that you may pass; the side of the road with the dashes is the side that may pass. Double yellow lines can never be crossed.

  2. The answer is definitely C.

A is wrong because solid double lines mean NO passing.

B is wrong because if you speed up to 65, you will only hit the car in front of, or a car going the opposite direction.

C is right because you need at least 10-12 seconds to safely get over into the other lane and pass the car without hitting oncoming traffic.

  3. It's C) Have at least 10 to 12 second gap in the oncoming traffic.

It can't be A because you're not allowed to cross solid double yellow lines, so you can't wait for them to come up.

It can't be B because "technically" you are not allowed to go pass the speed limit, even when passing people.

It has to be C because you need at least 10 seconds (A clear view of at least 300-500 feet) ahead of you in order for you to successfully pass someone without crashing or making conflict.

    Hope this helped!  :)
