  1. My family owns, trains and breed harness horses in the UK.  I don't really know how to describe what it's like to drive them because I only drive at home, not in races, apart from the feeling of being on a very fast horse with so little contact in quite amazing.  Drivers can be any age, old or young.  There are quite a few successful femaule drivers in this country but I don't know about others.  I'm pretty sure that a person could live off the salary.  To get started driving I suppose you would have to find either a trainer to start work with or get a horse a start driving it.

  2. Driving a race is a huge rush when you're first starting, but then becomes pretty ordinary like anything else. depends on where you are, but the average age at the Meadowlands is likely 45 or higher. At Saratoga it's likely to be a bit younger. You should approach a trainer someone near you for a job if you want to become something. No one starts at the top.
