i just bought this new laptop..one of main things i wanna do is make copies of my personal dvds..so im willing to pay for programs that will help me burn backups..i downloaded dvd shrink and i got a dvd copied onto my hard drive [i also ran dvd43 in the background for protection issues] now i need a program to burn the files onto a blank dvd-r...my first issue/question is..how do i get the movie files on a dvd in order for it to play like a normal dvd? i just dont get the whole drag and drop deal..does the burner put it all in order for me,so that the copies can play on any dvd player??? ive asked for help before, but it hasn't helped much..people have just pasted a link or two with no explanation...so it would be great if you can explain the process in full...also what alternatives are there for dvd shrink? preferably free ones..any links of programs you personally use along with a step by step process..thanks and i will pick a best answer.

  1. VSO ConvertXtodvd works wonders to burn a Movie from your PC to a Blank DVD-R, i use it it works wonders

  2. Cucusoft Video to DVD Creator is a good choice. It converts popular video formats such as AVI, MPEG, WMV, DivX, DV, VOB to DVD and burn DVD movie played on portable or home DVD player. Any video to to VCD/DVD/SVCD is even faster than real-time.

Unbiased reviews and side-by-side comparisons of the DVD creator give you enough information to research the ins and outs of a particular product:

Also, you can search some other software:

  3. Rip (decode) your DVD with DVD shrink, set the output size to 4.2 (this will give you overhead for the directories and what not) you will need a DVD burning program like NERO to complete the process.  If you have NERO installed you will be able to complete the whole process through DVD Shrink.
