Question:

Question about dyeing my hair? (I'm a guy)?

I'm a guy with medium blonde hair and I just like it more when its brown. The problem is that every time I bought a brown hair dye its turned out almost black. I buy the boxes with women in the front and I use the entire bottle as it says to, is this a mistake? My hair is about 3 inches long and a little bit thick. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong, I once tried dying it ashen brown, not too dark at all, but I still looked like a goth after. So should I leave it in for less time or use less of the bottle? please help

  1. Try Garnier Nutrisse #72 Dark beige blonde.

If you still have a dark color on your hair, wait until it fades out before you try a new color.  If you want to color over the dark that you have use #60 Light Natural Brown.

You don't need to use all of the color on your hair.  Just cover it, make sure you get around your face really well.  Dispose of the rest.

Don't use the color for Men....they tend to be off a little on color and don't have the variety of the women's colors.

  2. if you MUST do it by yourself, remember that your natural hair is blonde. meaning, that it soaks up the color faster than a medium color. so, go for a light brown. dont leave it on for the whole time, you only need hair dye to soak for about 20 mins, unless it is a really cheap brand.

try any Herbal Essences brand, they are very good. Ive used them from time to time. Also, look to see if they have brands that are made specifically for blondes. And, last bit of advice, use womens hair color if you cant find the mens hair color you want. All our hair is made of the same thing! differentiating between male & female hair is simply a marketing ploy. You can use womens hair color!

or, just go to the salon. ask them what color they suggest and when you have to color it next, buy the store brand that best matches.

  3. Drugstore box dyes are progressive, meaning the longer you leave it on the darker it will go.  Also, you don't need to use the whole amount, just make sure you've completely covered all your hair.  If there's some left over, that's fine, throw it out.  Or choose a color a little lighter than you think you want.  Hope that helps.
