Question about eBay. ***very important***?

Okay, so I'm new to eBay. I signed up spur of the moment. Anyway, I placed a bid on this handbag thinking I'd have enough for the other item I placed a bid on, which I really want and hope I end up winning. The handbag...well, its just okay. I want to just kick myself for placing that bid. Of course I'm the high bidder and the auction ends in 9 hours. Anyway, my question is, if you end up winning and you don't pay, what happens? Somebody told me that basically your reputation on eBay is ruined. I'm hoping desperately that somebody outbids me. I mean...if you bid and then just don't pay, are the sellers forced to take legal action against you? Or do they just sell the item to the next highest bidder?

  1. well, u could always resell the item after u get it if u end up winning the handbag

  2. If you don't pay they will probably just sell the item to someone else, but they will definitely report you and it will very hard, if not impossible, for you to purchase on eBay again.  EBay has a process that the seller has to go through to collect from someone, and once that process is over and you still don't pay, you can kiss your buying power good-bye.  When you make a bid, you are agreeing to be legally bound to purchase the item if you win it, but it is extremely unlikely that legal action will be taken against you.  I bid on something in the excitement of the moment one time, and I ended up paying over $200 for something I didn't want.  I paid for it right away because I value my reputation.  I still own it and I still hate it, but I consider it a lesson learned.

I sell things on eBay from time to time, and one time a lady contacted me and said she couldn't pay because her mother was sick.  I think she was full of baloney, but because she contacted me right away, I let her off the hook.  If you win this item, a prompt, polite email to the seller might get you out of it.  If it doesn't, pay up.

  3. well your bid is a legal contract but i doubt that they would pursue it but you may loose the ability to shop on ebay, 9  hours , well  if others had already bid i bet they will bid again, many people wait till the last moments to bid.
