Question:

Question about early m/c or chemical pregnancy?

had fertility treatment 2 weeks ago today. Just done a HPT (5 of them actually!) and all were BFP's!

I thought I would be So happy when I got my BFP that I would have to worry about nothing... I didn't realise then!

I've read loads of stuff on the internet about the high risk of losing a baby early on and it's really on my mind!

I've read that the body starts to release Hcg after the egg had implanted.. But I've read that a chemical pregnancy is where the egg was fertilised but never implanted. So how does it release Hcg which can be detected on a HPT?

I'm confused and really worried that the pregnancy won't stick. My Husband and I have been trying for 4 years.

Does anyone know the chances of early miscarriage? or how to prevent it?

Thank you so much in advance xxxxxx

  1. PLEASE dont stress yourself out. it will not help your mind. alot of people are gonna say if it happens it happens and that is true. besides eating right and doing healthy things like taking your prenatals there is nothing you can do to prevent a m/c as much as i t sucks...just be happy you are preggers. im 9 weeks and i still freak out every so once in a while but just tthink like this...they say 2 out of 10 miscarry but thats still an 80% chance of carrying to full term, or being one of 80 of 100 that do succesfully give birth! just relax and celebrate!

    CONGRATULATIONS

  2. please dont worry, how dark were the lines etc on the test? If its very dark line you dont need to worry, i had a chemical pregnancy but when i did the test the line was very faint and then i had heavy bleeding. I hope everything works out for you if you ever need to talk to email me good luck xx

  3. Ah, it's a long journey isn't it! You get the BFP and then that's only the start of it really.

Unortunately there is very little you can do to prevent a miscarriage apart from following the standard advice about not drinking, smoking, having too much caffeine etc.

Take your vitamins, eat well, take it easy, look after yourself and that will improve your chances.

    There are no guarantees unfortunately.

With my first pregnancy I wasn't trying to get pregnant and it happened when we were using protection. So for the first few weeks I was drinking, taking meds, I flew half way round the world on a plane. And my baby was perfect!

My second pregnancy me and my husband followed a preconceptual care programme for 4 months before I conceived. And I had a blighted ovum.

You can never tell, but you have to trust your body a bit and think positive otherwise you'll drive yourself mad for the next 8 months!

    Congrats on getting your BFP!

  4. Congratulations after 4 years!! Firstly the most important thing you can do at the moment is NOT worry!

It is believed that chemical pregnancies occur when the fetus dies immediately after conception. This happens before the embryo has a chance to implant in your uterus where it can grow and develop.

Unfortunately, chemical pregnancies are actually quite common. In fact, between 50% and 60% of all first-time pregnancies are thought to end in miscarriage. A large majority of these can be attributed to chemical pregnancies.

When it comes to chemical pregnancies, many women don’t even realize that they have experienced one. This is because the vast majority of these miscarriages occur within the initial six weeks of pregnancy. During this time, typical signs of pregnancy are not always present just yet and a missed period may not have happened yet, making it somewhat unlikely for most women to take a pregnancy test. As a result, many women don’t even know that they were pregnant in the first place.

However, because pregnancy tests are becoming increasingly sensitive, it is now possible for women to detect pregnancy up to 3 days before their period is due. As a result, more and more women are able to recognize their pregnancies ahead of time, making it more likely that women will detect a chemical pregnancy.

    Hope this helps!

  5. Try not to worry to much and stay way from internet. Try to take it easy and eat healthy. I got pregnant through fertility treatment also and I was worried that I will miscarry. It is all in GOD's hand... pray and have faith that everything will be fine. GOOD LUCK & CONGRATULATIONS!

  6. I've had a chemical pregnancy and my understanding is that it's a chemical pregnancy when it's only confirmed by a HPT and not by a doctor before miscarriage occurs. For me I had a BFP and before I went to the Dr I m/c. The ultrasound didn't show any "product of conception" so it was called a chemical preg. I also had another m/c where the sac and placenta formed, but no baby did. That was called a blighted ovum. The chance of miscarriage is about 20-25%. After three m/c it increases. There really is nothing you can do to prevent a m/c unless you have some diagnosed problem like low progesterone, blood clotting problems, or something else. Tests would need to be performed to find out if you have any of these problems. Talk to your doctor about it especially if you've been unable to conceive for 4 years or consider seeing a fertility specialist. Good Luck!!
