Question about eating small portions throughout the day to lose weight..?

Here are my work hours: either 10:30 am to 7 pm or 5:30 am to 2 pm. How could I eat small portions throught the day while working? I'm a vegetarian. Someone answered a question of mine earlier and said that eating small portions throught the day instead of basic bfast, lunch and dinner, that I will be able to lose weight quicker and healthier because it'll speed up my metabolism. So, what types of small stuff should I eat and how can I figure out what times to eat?
