If you sell a computer on ebay for 2000$ then then pay using paypal and you ship item.... cant they just do a chargeback and get the item for free??

How is this prevented and if the scammer does this can you get your money back?

  1. PayPal will only refund the money if for some reason the item was never received or if the item received was not of the same nature as the item description said it was. There are a lot of restrictions on just "getting your money back" from paypal for an eBay purchase. So if someone paid you, they wouldn't be able to just pilfer their money back. It doesn't quite work that way.

  2. Hi J,  It seems like you already have some concerns, this to me would be a Red Flag, be careful, so many things can happen, please check with Paypal, and see what they have to offer, also maybe have your computer checked out that all is in good working order, and have them sign it, and say this is good for 90 days or whatever the Tech will approve.

Maybe call the place where you bought the computer, and ask them what advise they have on selling the computer, maybe they will take a trade-in.  When you are dealing with this kind of money it is best to be careful, also make sure the Buyer has at least 25 Feedbacks, or something like that.  If you are worried now, how will you feel when you ship it out.  Just protect yourself number one.  Maybe you can call some businesses in your area and ask if they are interested in a computer, or place an ad in a local newspaper.  Just some ideas to think about.  Thanks for your question. Stay Positive.  H2H
