If you sell a computer on ebay for 2000$ then then pay using paypal and you ship item.... cant they just do a chargeback and get the item for free??

How is this prevented and if the scammer does this can you get your money back?

  1. You just can't do a "chargeback" through PayPal.  Any problems with items bought/sold must be resolved through PayPal.  See the PayPal website for further details.

  2. A friend of mine ordered a computer, paid via PayPal, got nothing, filed a complaint, guy shipped an empty box, but had a tracking number showing he shipped something, so my buddy got hosed.  As long as you do tracking and such, you should be fine.

  3. Pay pal seller protection.  If the item is above a certain amount they usually offer pay pal seller protection.  Also, make sure you only sell to verified buyers.  It would also be a smart idea to document the exact condition of the item on sending and also require a signature for delivery.  When I was first starting out I learned a lot of information on this through a educational video series about ebay.  At the time it was free but I'm not sure if it is free anymore. If it is, you might want to check it out, it has tons of helpful information.
