Question about electrons?

If I was an electron, what happens to me when: I go through a transformer, I go through liquid, why can't I go through glass? Why can't I go out of uninsulated wires? what does 2-phase, 3-phase do to me?

  1. Going through a transformer you will be affected by a magnetic field.  If you are the source side of the transformer, the field will take energy from you (slow you down) proportional to the load on the other side of the transformer.  If you are electron on the load side, you will gain energy from the field proportional to the current in the load side of the transformer.  The total amount of energy gained or loss will also be affected by how coils you pass through in the transformer.

    Your path through a liquid will tend to be rather random, but trending in the direction of positive voltage.  You hop from one atom to next closest in the direction you want to go, but the liquid doen't have fixed structure for you to follow.

    You don't go through glass or insulation due to lattice structure of those material.  There are little or no "holes" for you to occupy and flow through.

    2-phase and 3-phase are both forms of AC.  Since you can only be in one phase of the circuit, from your perspective as an individual electron they will affect you the same way.  While in an AC circuit voltage inducing your movement will be constantly changing following a sine wave pattern.  You will be moved in one direction with increasing force until peak voltage, start to slow, come to momentary stop, then move in the other direction as voltage reverses, increase speed until peak negative voltage, then slow back down to a stop.  You will repeat this cycle a number of times per second equal to the frequency of AC circuit.


  2. You can pass through metal because the structure of the molecules that make up metal allow electrons to be shared across atoms and thus move freely. You cannot move through glass or plastic (insulting sheaths on wires) because the bonding in these materials does not allow the electrons to move - they are part of the lattice. 2-Phase and 3-Phase does nothing to you - you move through the metal whenever there is a difference in potential between one end and the other. You are unaware of any more than that.
